Orientation Advisors Fall 2021 Information

Can I apply to be an Orientation Advisor?

Yes, orientation is an important program for The University of Texas at Austin, and Orientation Advisors play a significant role in making the program meaningful and impactful. We will be hiring Orientation Advisors for the Summer 2022 program this fall.

Are the Information Sessions required to apply to be an Orientation Advisor?

Orientation Advisor Information Sessions are an important part of your application process, and each student that applies to be an OA is required to attend one of our Information Sessions in order to gain access to the online application. Some of our Information Sessions will occur in-person, and some of them will occur via Zoom. The same content will be shared at each Information Session, and it does not matter which one you attend.

In what format will Orientation Advisor Interviews take place?

Our interview process allows OA applicants to share a bit about their motivation for applying for the position and get to know a bit more of New Student Service’s staff. Individual Interviews will take place virtually the week of November 1. Group Interview Day will take place in-person (pending changes to the university health and safety guidance) on Sunday, November 7. We will ensure that the interviews have the same effect even if we need to adjust our format for safety and social distancing reasons.

Will there be a required OA class in the spring?

The Orientation Advisor class will still be a required part of the OA experience. Details will be forthcoming on the specific format of the class.

Am I required to live on-campus during the summer as an Orientation Advisor?

Yes, Orientation Advisors are expected to live in provided on-campus housing. It is necessary that we have the full Orientation Advisor team available on-campus to support an in-person or hybrid Orientation experience. If Orientation moves to a virtual format due to updated university health and safety guidance, alternative arrangements will be made. Orienation Advisors will remain on staff no matter the format of Orientation.

If I am offered a position as an Orientation Advisor and then there are changes to the orientation format, what will happen to my job?

Orientation Advisors are a very important ingredient to UT’s Orientation, and their work to welcome and support new students will continue no matter the format of the Orientation program. This past year, Orientation Advisors continued to plan programming, lead small groups, work as peer academic advisors, and host a wide variety of social activities through our hybrid Orientation experience.
