The University of Texas at Austin is committed to ensuring students with a disability(ies) have equal access to all aspects of their campus experience. Students who have a disability, including medical and/or mental health conditions, and may need accommodations at orientation should follow the processes outlined below.
When you register for your orientation session, please indicate if you need any of the following accommodations:
- Housing and dining accommodations
- Interpreting or captioning services
- Placement exam accommodations
- Accessible copies of orientation materials
After you register for your session, you must submit all required forms and supporting documentation to Services for Students with Disabilities at least two weeks before your session. Requests made within 10 days before your session may not be guaranteed.
Here are the steps you should take for each type of accommodation.
Housing and Dining Accommodations
Complete the Request for Housing and Food Accommodations form and have a medical/health professional complete the verification form. Completed forms should be sent to Services for Students with Disabilities.

Interpreting or Captioning Services
If you need interpreting or captioning during orientation, please contact New Student Services at least two weeks before your session. Requests made within 10 days before your session may not be guaranteed.
Placement Exam Accommodations
If you need accommodations during the UT Math Assessment, submit the Request for Math Accommodations form and supporting documentation to Services for Students with Disabilities at least two weeks before you plan to take your exam.
If you need accommodations during a placement exam administered by the Student Testing Services (such as a language placement exam), submit the Request for Placement Exam Accommodations form and supporting documentation to Services for Students with Disabilities at least two weeks before you plan to take your exam. SSD will notify you of the accommodations that you have been approved for. After you receive confirmation that your accommodation request has been approved, you should contact Student Testing Services at firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-232-26652 to make arrangements to take the test. (You do not need to make any special arrangements for the UT Math Assessment.)
Even if you have been approved for accommodations during orientation testing, this does not mean you are approved for accommodations in classes and exams at UT Austin. You will still need to schedule an intake appointment with SSD to receive accommodations for your classes and exams at UT Austin. For more information, visit the SSD website.
Accessible Copies of Orientation Materials
If you need accessible copies of orientation materials (large print, electronic format, etc., please contact New Student Services at least two weeks before your session.
Accommodations During the Academic Year
