Your Orientation

Your orientation program has been designed to be as informational and helpful as possible. Our goal is to provide you with the resources you need to succeed academically and find your place in the UT Austin community.

There are two required components to your orientation: self-guided online modules and academic advising.

Step 1: Canvas Modules

You will need to complete self-guided Canvas. The modules contain helpful resources for academic success, navigating campus life and health and safety at UT Austin. The modules will take two to three hours to complete.

The Canvas modules will become available in July to students who have registered for Transfer Orientation. Students who register later will be able to access the Canvas modules 1-2 business days after they have completed registration.

Step 2: Academic Advising

You will meet with an academic advisor where you'll learn more about college requirements and expectations, degree plans and how to use the course registration system. Your advisor will go over the course schedule with you and help you map out a sample schedule of classes.

Instructions for scheduling your academic advising appointment will be shared once you have completed your pre-orientation Canvas modules. This appointment will take place virtually. Meeting with an academic advisor is required for course registration.

Course Registration

Be sure to access your Registration Information Sheet to review any holds. Advising holds will be cleared during your advising appointment. If you have an Health Hold, you must submit your documentation to University Health Services before you can register for classes.  If you have an international hold, that will be cleared once you have completed the check-in process with Texas Global.  If you have a Financial Responsibility Statement (FRS) hold, you must sign the statement to confirm you understand your role and responsibility to pay tuition and fees by the payment due date. If you have a high school transcript hold, it will not prevent you from registering for classes.

Once you have met with your academic advisor, you will be eligible to register for courses during your next registration window listed on your Registration Information Sheet.

Step 3: In-Person Experience (Optional)

You have the option to participate in an on-campus program to connect with your fellow incoming transfer students and become familiar with the Forty Acres. Housing and meals will be provided as part of this program. Participation requires an additional fee.
